My Jihad Against Entitled Boston Sports Fans

9 June 2011

…for GQ.com. Hell, I root for the Celtics, and grew up watching Red Sox games from Vermont TV feeds. But this needed to be said.

    Hey Jonah:

Love your work, I’m a Mass. Native living in Chicago now and think you’re a little off base on this particular example. You’re dead on about the resentment of all things Boston but the way the Canucks have played this series has led to many “I hate Boston a lot but I just can’t root for these sissies” (they didn’t use sissies) from many non-Boston fans and Boston haters I know. I think the combo of your Canadian blood along with living in New England has skewed this jihad a bit. No one wants to see a group of biters, divers, cheap shots and punks win a cup…even if that means another parade in Boston.

Just my 2 cents, keep up the good work!

      Hey Hugh,

Of course! Was certainly have some fun, tongue-in-cheek, all that. I like how Justin Bourne of Puck Daddy described the piece…”backhanded compliment.” Boston as a sports city has earned the right to be arrogant, that’s what you get when you win and win and win.

As a New Englander for the past 5 years (and a Celtics fan), it’s both fun and funny to watch.

Have a great sports weekend, and good luck to the B’s tonight.
