Friday Fun with Norm McDonald

20 November 2009

I’m not sure how exactly I ended up with Norm McDonald on the brain lately. But for some reason I find myself doing the Norm-Frank Stallone routine over and over these days, even in my head.

You know the one:

A darkhorse candidate emerged during yesterday’s controversial NL Cy Young results. That candidate? You guessed it. Frank Stallone.

A powerful lobbyist is threatening to scuttle health care reform. That lobbyist? You guessed it. Frank Stallone.

And so on.

Apparently I’m not the only the Norm fan on these here Internets. Friend of the site Marc Normandin passed along this classic clip from the 1998 ESPYs. In eight glorious minutes, Norm goes after Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan, O.J. Simpson, even Hideki Irabu. It’s a time capsule of sweet, sweet snark so well done, Ken Griffey Jr. looks ready to bolt from the theater in disgust.

So to get you started on your weekends, gang, here’s my man, and fellow Canuck, Norm McDonald, kicking ass and taking names at the ’98 ESPYs.

Huge fan of Norm MacDonald — didn’t someone once call him the J.D. Salinger of dick jokes?

Norm told a great story on Letterman once about the Panda Game in Ottawa back in the day.

Did you see Larry Walker in there? Some of that was GOLD!

The Maple Ridge Boy indeed. I bet he was the only athlete sincerely laughing.

Wow, The only funnier thing than Norm is the complete lack of sense of humor from the jocks. Griffey’s reactions were definetly the best. Self entitled a-holes. Of all the peole shown, only Peyton Manning is still relevent. Should be a lesson to all self-entitled a-holes.Here today, gone tomorrow, don’t take yourself so seriously.
