Nice post. I agree that McClouth is almost the perfect acquisition for the Atlanta Braves. But I think you let the Pirates off a little lightly. Not only are the Pirates not getting enough of a return for a very good player in his prime, who is also signed cheaply. But they also proved to be poor evaluators. Huntington has claimed that this was an offer that he could not refuse. They also claimed that part of the benefit was putting the defensively superior McCutchen in center field. They could have put McCutchen into center field and used McClouth to fill the gaping hole in right field. The Pirates new management is almost as bad as the old management when it comes to team building. That's about the worst thing I could say about them.

I watched Nate come up through the pirates minor leagues, particularly his time with Altoona, Double A. He was inconsistent then, but always played with heart and passion. Since then, he has matured, become more patient, but still has the same heart and passion.

Every year the Pirates trade one of their hot young players in search for more minor league talent. This year is no different. I think the Braves got their missing piece in McLouth. We will wait to see how the Braves hot prospects work out in the Pirates organisation.
