JK, I know my Padres will struggle, but pushing 100 losses again? I think (contrary to opinion) that they keep Peavy, deal Giles and possibly Gonzales and Kouzmanoff. Headley is better suited for 3B, Kyle Blanks is a masher, and Giles is almost done. Build around Peavy and Latos, get younger and more athletic by trading the guys listed above and who knows? 2011 could be a banner year.

Johannes, I agree with you about the Twins. Where's the O?? Also nice to see you are not on the Royals bandwagon..seriously, how could people even mention them as a possible Tampa this season??

Not sure about the Phillies pick..still think they can outlast the Mets.

And no way Boston comes ahead of the Yankees..for all their great "pitching", check this stat out.

2004-2008

Burnett: 850 IP / ERA+ 113 / 836 KS
Beckett: 915 IP / ERA+ 114 / 842 Ks

Yes, Beckett is younger and has the rings, but "if" Burnett is healthy, the Yankees rotation is much better. Dice-K will regress a touch this year, Smoltz is out half the season (and is 42), Wakefield is 200 years old..Lester is tops, yes. But I'd take the Yankees starters in a heartbeat.

Well...point taken, but I'd say it's pretty easy to argue that the AL Central is not the best in baseball, given that the three best teams all look likely to reside in the AL East.

With that said, if you close your eyes you can see upside for all five teams, sure. I mentioned the Tigers being maybe the biggest boom-or-bust team in the majors (and my pick as AL darkhorse). The White Sox and Twins are coming off a tie for the regular-season win. The Royals have some nice young talent. And that's not mentioning the Indians, whom I'm picking to win it.

So while I'd hesitate to call it the best in baseball in even the rosiest scenario, sure, there's certainly potential here, if the five clubs meet the top end of their projections.
