Obama Takes on Teachers’ Unions
Good stuff.
I appreciate some of the objections here, most notably that merit-based pay could encourage more competition and as a result, stymie collaboration among teachers eager to get ahead. At the same time, I’m all about meritocracies, and the teaching system as currently constituted isn’t one.
This move by Obama isn’t about bipartisanship or political maneuvering toward the center or any of that nonsense. It’s about improving an incredibly flawed system. Can’t wait to see what he does with health care.
