Help me choose my all-time Expos team!
Thanks to Mike Lynch and the folks at Seamheads.com, I’ve been invited to participate in an all-franchise fantasy league of sorts. The rules are simple: Each owner must choose a 40-man roster consisting of players from one major league franchise. I chose the Expos, natch.
One stipulation to note: The game does NOT use the stats of Expo players from when they were on other teams. That means choosing someone like Randy Johnson or Pete Rose is pointless, because their great successes happened outside la belle province. Also note that these stats represent career numbers for the ‘Spos. So being good for a long time matters a lot more than putting up one random flukishly great season in Montreal.
My rivals in this league include Curt Schilling, hockey guru John Buccigross of ESPN.com, friend of JonahKeri.com and St. Louis Post-Dispatch columnist Derrick Goold, the great Joe Posnanski of the Kansas City Star and SI, and Sam Mellinger, another KC Star writer who’s put out a similar call to arms to his bloggy nation to help him pick an all-time Royals team.
Not that it’ll matter…Carter, Raines, Dawson, Pedro, Vlad…Nos Amours going to crush the competition. The best part? We might actually see Pedro knock Babe Ruth on his ass, as he famously promised he would.
To help you along with the selection process, here are my slam dunks:
Tim Raines
Andre Dawson
Tim Wallach
Gary Carter
Steve Rogers
Pedro Martinez
Larry Walker

Let’s hear it!

Hey I would guess you left someone out ….He pitched for both my beloved sox and ex-beloved expos ???? Bill Lee of course!!! The spaceman ! Ok maybe note stat wise but you got to agree Bill Lee was an important part of what where the expos in that time”What he said about Steve Rogers’s pitch that Rick Monday hit for a Hr in the 81 nlcs that was a great one:”My grandma would have thrown harder than that” Wow how supportive of im.Anyways got to throw in all those 94 guys Dennis Martinez, F.P Santangelo, Delino Deshield’ etc. Got to have just for the eck of it Rusty Staub all those early 70′s players. Of course Gary Carter, Andre Dawson, Tim Raines, etc. Coco Laboy just for the name and also the fact that he was living on 9th avenue in my beloved rosemont. Bill Stoneham who threw 2 no-no. And there is plenty more out there im trying to find some more in “une vue du champs gauche” by the way a wonderful book for all those expos nostalgics.I think that your list is right on the money and you should definately consider Vlad in there almost got us to the playoff in 2003 I remember skipping school to go to the big O . Well, I’m going to be of no real help here, but I can give you this much: I believe you are familiar with the Straight Cash Homey blog, Jonah. Did you see this one from the other day? An Ugueth Urbina jersey triple-sighting! The caption and comments made me laugh out loud at work the other day. http://straightcashhomey.net/post/52913632/ugueth-urbina-philadelphia-phillies-the-phillies#disqus_thread
“Best cutter in the game” slayed me. Ummm…so to speak.
