…by the McClatchy group, on all the lead-up to the Iraq war. What makes this story (which contains links to reams of articles calling out the Bush government well before the war even started) so astonishing is that more and more, we’re seeing the Brian Williamses and Charlie Gibsons, the media’s biggest superstars, rushing onto talk shows to refute claims made by former White House press secretary Scott McLellan that the media completely shirked its duties in letting the goverment shove the Iraq war down Americans’ throats. Gibson and company have said again and again that asking pointed questions about the government’s actions and intentions isn’t their job. They’re not reporters, they’re merely messengers who convey whatever the White House has to say.
So kudos, McClatchy group. You remind us all what makes for great journalism.
